I realize it’s been a while since I took my first swing at an official blog. We had a few technical issues on how to link the blog to the church’s website that brought the train to a sudden halt. The aforementioned hypothetical pals, “Leslie” and “Calvin,” managed to restore order and bring peace to the galaxy–which basically means “it’s now working.” lol I need to thank them for their patience with me…for I am, by far, the weakest link in the First Baptist chain of technology.
I confess I feel kind of excited at attempting something new like this. It’s one of those rare moments when I really do have a blank slate to work from. The bulk of years I’ve spent in ministry have meant following in the footsteps of other people…which is a pressure all it’s own. This blog gives me an opportunity to travel down a road where I have no predecessors to follow…which makes me breathe a big sigh of relief.
As the pastor of FBC Monticello, I feel it’s only right to begin this new leg of ministry by thanking this dear church family for the opportunity to serve the Lord here. My first sermon as pastor was preached on September 11, 2016. (Yes the date was kinda eery…as many of my pastor buddies have pointed out, lol) We are now a little over 5 months into this work…the church family has been wonderful. Our deacons are servant-minded. Our church has a mission and kingdom mindset. The love of Christ is felt within the church family. What a gracious thing God has done…I am humbled.
As a devout Tennessee fan and an advocate of most things orange (except the sissy orange variants you’ll find at Clemson, Syracuse, Oklahoma St, Texas and, of course, Florida), I’m sure the Big Blue faithful will most assuredly be looking for opportunities to heckle the “new guy.” I welcome it…as I plan on heckling right back. I’m sure neither of us would have it any other way.
Blessings to all…Stay Classy Monticello! 🙂
